The company says its new products offer advances in efficiency technology with Toyota's optional Lift Logic Speed and Height Control System, enabling fast and easy picking. The line includes Toyota's first model in the class to offer a 36-volt option that reaches a maximum reach height of 390 inches. The three new models come equipped with AC Drive and two models come standard with AC Lift. The entry-level model is a 24-volt that lifts up to 240 inches. U.S. rail carload and intermodal volumes see slight annual gains

By LM Staff · October 12, 2018 United States rail carload and intermodal volumes saw annual gains for the week ending October 6, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported this week. Rail carloads, at 269,394, saw a 0.7% annual gain, and were below the weeks ending September 29 and September 22 at 272, 306 and 272,615, respectively. AAR said that six of the ten carload commodity groups it tracks posted annual gains, including petroleum and petroleum products, up 2,579 carloads, to 12,545; coal, up 1,250 carloads, to 88,939; and metallic ores and metals, up 880 carloads, to 22,121. Commodity groups that posted decreases compared with the same week in 2017 included grain, down 1,918 carloads, to 22,641; nonmetallic minerals, down 1,557 carloads, to 37,581; and miscellaneous carloads, down 154 carloads, to 9,860. Baltic Index Rises as Capesize Rates Jump

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships ferrying dry bulk commodities, rose on Friday, helped by strong demand for capesize vessels. * The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, gained 64 points, or 4.2 percent, to 1,579 points. * The capesize index marked its highest daily percentage gain since July 12 rising 8.2 percent, or 164 points, to 2,169 points. * Average daily earnings for capesizes, which typically transport 170,000-180,000 tonne cargoes such as iron ore and coal, were up $1,541 at $18,746. * The panamax index rose 12 points or 0.7 percent to 1,775 points. * Average daily earnings for panamaxes, which usually carry coal or grain cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes, increased $94 to $14,227. * The supramax index fell 3 points to 1,204 points. Transport is more than a commodity – DHL report

Four out five businesses are willing to pay more for better and value-added services as long as they provide a measurable return on their investment, according to a study by DHL Supply Chain. The report, “The Logistics Transport Evolution: The Road ahead”, found that companies are increasingly viewing ground transport as being more than a tactical commodity, with 71 per cent now considering it to be a strategic component of their businesses. And three quarters said investing time and resources in ground transport will directly help their company sales. Jolly green Hactl to install large-scale solar panels

Hong Kong cargo handler Hactl has taken the next step in its 'Green Terminal' project by installing 1,300 sq m of solar panels on the roof of its SuperTerminal 1 facility in Hong Kong. Hactl’s new solar power installation will feature 518 panels with the electricity generation capacity of 160 kWp, with the “renewable energy” fed into the power grid. Hactl chief executive Wilson Kwong said: “This is a major step forward in Hactl’s Green Terminal project, and will make a significant contribution to our efforts to minimise our terminal’s environmental impact. North American trade still going strong as Europe lags behind

Europe was the laggard trading region in September while North America was “still going strong” according to the gKNi World Trade Indicator powered by LogIndex AG ,the data company of global freighter forwarder Kuehne+Nagel. The gKNi World Trade Indicator stood at 141.0 (+5.8% YoY) at the end of September, down by 0.3% compared to the previous month. The third quarter saw an increase of 0.5% (quarter on quarter) compared with increases of 0.4% in the second quarter and 4.4% in the first quarter. The World Trade Indicator is a US dollar value indicator influenced by inflationary pressures, in particular higher energy prices.
