Weekly Rail Traffic for the Week Ending October 6, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 554,238 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.2 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending October 6 were 269,634 carloads, up 0.7 percent compared with the same week in 2017, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 284,604 containers and trailers, up 1.8 percent compared to 2017. Six of the 10 carload commodity groups posted an increase compared with the same week in 2017. They included petroleum and petroleum products, up 2,579 carloads, to 12,545; coal, up 1,250 carloads, to 88,939; and metallic ores and metals, up 880 carloads, to 22,121. Commodity groups that posted decreases compared with the same week in 2017 included grain, down 1,918 carloads, to 22,641; nonmetallic minerals, down 1,557 carloads, to 37,581; and miscellaneous carloads, down 154 carloads, to 9,860. In Germany, smaller online stores hardly grow

Although ecommerce in Germany continued to increase last year, the growth is increasingly shifting to the top online retailers. Smaller online stores in Germany can hardly grow anymore. This is shown by a recent EHI study. Last year, the 1,000 top-selling online stores in Germany generated revenue worth 42.8 billion euros. That’s an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the previous year. But there’s a worrying development going on in Germany, Internet World Business writes . “The growth is increasingly shifting to the top of the ecommerce, an increase in sales is becoming increasingly difficult for smaller online retailers”, the blog comments. Liebherr Container Cranes to supply ten electric RTG cranes to Montreal Gateway Terminal

Liebherr Container Cranes have secured an order for the supply of 10 electric rubber tyre gantry cranes to Montreal Gateway Terminal Partnerships. The cranes will be delivered to both the Cast and Racine Terminals in 2019. Liebherr supplied its first crane to Cast Terminal, Montreal in 1997. Since then Montreal Gateway Terminal Partnership have procured an additional four STS cranes and 8 RTG cranes from Liebherr, further cementing their working relationship. In 2016, a conductor bar system was installed at the terminal, and associated electrical and mechanical works retrofitted to two of the earlier delivered Liebherr RTGs to allow for full electric operation.
