Tips for enhancing your data lake strategy

← Back to blog home As organizations grapple with how to effectively manage ever voluminous and varied reservoirs of big data, data lakes are increasingly viewed as a smart approach. However, while the model can deliver the flexibility and scalability lacking in traditional enterprise data management architectures, data lakes also introduce a fresh set of integration and governance challenges that can impede success. The power and potential of data lakes Born from the rise of the cloud and big data technologies like Hadoop, data lakes provide a way for organizations to cost-effectively store nearly limitless amounts of structured and unstructured data from myriad sources without regard to how that data might be leveraged in the future. By its very nature and through self-service business intelligence capabilities, a data lake also encourages experimentation and data exploration by a broader set of non-business analyst users. According to a survey conducted by TDWI...

Moving Big Data to the cloud: A big problem?

← Back to blog home Originally published on Data Centre Review . Digital transformation is overhauling the IT approach of many organizations and data is at the center of it all. As a result, organizations are going through a significant shift in where and how they manage, store and process this data. To manage big data in the not so distant past, enterprises processed large volumes of data by building a Hadoop cluster on-premises using a commercial distribution such as Cloudera, Hortonworks, or MapR. The data analyzed was mostly structured and required a large capital expenditure upfront to purchase the necessary hardware. Adding to this, Hadoop is a complex infrastructure to manage and monitor, requiring organizations to employ individuals with a specialized skill set, skills which are rare to come by. To tackle these issues many organizations have been looking towards the cloud. Yet the benefits promised from moving big...

How to load your Salesforce data into NetSuite

← Back to blog home Connecting customer relationship management (CRM) software with enterprise resource planning (ERP) technology is a fairly common integration requirement for organizations looking to complete a series of business goals from sales forecasting, revenue accounting by product or portfolio, to identifying highest revenue by industry or geography. To achieve these goals, integrators need to synchronize data across CRMs and ERPs to get a complete view of their data for analysis. Integrators using the SnapLogic Enterprise Integration Cloud can now load Salesforce data into NetSuite with the Salesforce to NetSuite pattern, a ready-to-use pipeline template, downloadable from the SnapLogic Patterns Catalog . Organizations using a different CRM or ERP system can still reuse this pattern by switching out the Salesforce Read and NetSuite Create Snaps with the CRM and ERP Snaps of their choice – Microsoft Dynamics Sales 365 , SugarCRM, Workday , SAP , and more. Configuring...

How code-heavy approaches to integration impede digital transformation

← Back to blog home At the heart of digital transformation lies the urge to survive. Any company, no matter how powerful, can go bankrupt, suffer a wave of layoffs, or get thrust into the bad end of an acquisition deal. Market disruption, led by those who have put digital transformation into practice, contributes heavily to such calamities. Look no further than the case of Blockbuster . In its heyday, the U.S. movie rental giant had stores planted on what felt like every street corner. Then came Netflix . By driving content digitalization, Netflix pioneered a new way of consuming media and entertainment. Eventually, it began using data and analytics to create personalized, almost enchanting, customer experiences, to the point where 125 million people now subscribe to their service. What’s more, Netlflix recently hit a market capitalization of $152.7 billion, edging past Disney to become the most valuable media and...

The 2018 Strata Data Conference and the year of machine learning

← Back to blog home Recently, I represented SnapLogic at the September 2018 Strata Data Conference at the Javits Center in New York City. This annual event is a good indication of trends in data – big and otherwise. If 2017 was the year of Digital Transformation, 2018 is the year of machine learning. Many of the exhibitor’s booth themes and topics for the presentations had to do with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Some of the established or legacy vendors were touting their ability to support artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) while some new companies were pure machine learning plays. Since SnapLogic customers have been benefiting from our machine learning efforts for several years now, it was nice to see how our early initiatives have been validated. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Emerging technologies Walking the tradeshow floor is a good way to identify trends and...

API World recap and self-service integration with AI

← Back to blog home It’s been about a week since I attended API World in San Jose, California to present an hour-long keynote, “Supercharging Self-Service API Integration with AI,” and I wanted to share some of my takeaways from this great conference. Ravi Dharnikota, Chief Enterprise Architect, presents his keynote, “Supercharging Self-Service API Integration with AI” For those who were unable to attend , I shared SnapLogic’s journey with machine learning (ML) , going from API integration to self-healing architectures to autonomous API integration. I talked about the history of our traditional approach to API integration , why we began investing in one of the first ML-based integration assistants we now call Iris AI , and how those two worlds collided to yield our current AI/ML approach today. You can view my slides here . We learned a lot of lessons throughout our journey and process and I’m glad...
