Vietnam’s first car-hailing app FastGo heads overseas

FastGo, a Vietnamese ride-hailing app, plans to launch its service in Indonesia and Myanmar in December as it hopes to become one of the top companies in the field in Southeast Asia. This move abroad comes just five months after it launched in Vietnam, positioning itself as the company’s answer to Singapore-based Grab, the biggest player in Southeast Asia, and Indonesia’s Go-Jek, which launched its first overseas operation in Vietnam last month, GoViet. FastGo offers a private car and taxi service in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City. As of early October, it claimed to have reached 20% of the local market with some 30,000 drivers registered on its system. The app was developed by MPOS Vietnam Technology, a tech startup created by FastGo’s co-founder and chief executive Nguyen Huu Tuat. MPOS set up Vietnam’s first mobile payment solution in 2013 and has links with many local partners including banks and insurers. “Although the Southeast...

Kakao to spin off e-commerce unit for expansion

South Korean mobile messaging platform Kakao is spinning off its e-commerce unit for further expansion. The new organisation will be Kakao’s largest spin-off, worth about KRW510.3 billion (US$458.6 million) by December. It will take over the operation of the Kakao Gifts, Shopping, Kakao Style and Kakao Farmer services. Kakao has also made plans to acquire global e-commerce firms and has expressed being open to securing additional funds through its spin-off. A spokesperson for the company said: “We are indeed open to securing additional investments after the process is completed. But at the moment we do not have any specific plans.” Kakao’s e-commerce business is weak in comparison with industry leader Naver, achieving only one seventh of the sales of its competitor. Its messenger service, conversely, remains dominant in its market. Original link

Running Sales and Holiday Promotions Without Deep Discounts

If you’re considering running a promotion over the holidays, have you stopped to work out if you can actually afford it? It’s the right question to ask upfront because not every online store operates with profit margins that allow for discounts (let alone deep ones of 50% or more). Plus: setting up and running a promotion takes time, which is something new store owners don’t have in handfuls. The good news is you don’t have to offer a discount to stand out during the holidays. You could do something as simple as offering free shipping or as little as a few dollars off (if certain order criteria are met). We’ve picked four of tried and tested alternatives to deep discounts for sprucing up the holidays. Before we dive in: let’s explore the question of whether you can afford to offer a discount in the first place. Can you afford to offer a...

Alternatives to Stripe?

I hope this is allowed here if not i shall delete So basically ive been running an ecommerce site using big cartel and accept paypal and use stripe for payments. Its all been good until the other day Stripe messaged me that theyre cutting ties with me because my products dont adhere to their terms. I tried to plead a case but basically they said sorry, no can do. So here i am. What is a good alternative to Stripe? I use big cartel if that matters, and i guess the products can be coined “marijuana accessories” as stripe called them. I told them they have intended use for legal things which technically they do,,, but they said its close enough that doesnt matter. so hopefully some places that arent squares. jk i understand its policy and all and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :-) Original link

Advertising Budget

Hello, I’m a little bit confused on the startup budget! I’m eager to learn this business, and I’ve been listening to many different “successful” YouTube dropshippers, but I’m not sure what the common agreement is when it comes to a budget. Can someone explain Facebook ads/Instagram influenced ads in a simple sense with maybe an understanding of what I’m looking at in terms of spending. I appreciate any help, thank you! Original link

Scam Warning- UrbanDaddy.com

Urban Daddy requested a flash sale for 1 of our items. We are now 3 months past PO due, and they are not answering our requests for payment. I've read online about similar stories. So a few things: A. Don't SHOP or SELL on this site, Urban Daddy. B. Any ideas on how to go about this? It's only $700 on the invoice so not the end of the world, but it's the principal. Data Breach Lawsuits: A Growing Risk for E-Commerce

By John K. Higgins Oct 6, 2018 5:00 AM PT This story was originally published on the E-Commerce Times on June 15, 2018, and is brought to you today as part of our Best of ECT News series. The expanding world of Internet commerce likely will generate a corresponding expansion of data breaches, with the result that e-commerce businesses increasingly will become the targets of consumer class action lawsuits. Breach litigation has become more prevalent as a result of a perceptible legal trend favoring consumers. Various federal appeals courts have allowed consumers to launch class action suits even though the alleged injury from a breach was small, or even nonexistent, in terms of a current and tangible financial loss. Decisions in two back-to-back cases earlier this year appeared to solidify greater legal leverage for consumers. The cases involved online retailer Zappos.com, and bookseller Barnes & Noble. Generally speaking, consumers need...
