How the Mathematics of Fractals Can Help Predict Stock Markets Shifts

The plot is the following: Log returns for Apple stocks. The output from the ADF test is: Augmented Dickey-Fuller test statistic: -28.653611206757994 p-value: 0.0 Critical Values: 1%: -3.4379766581448803 5%: -2.8649066016199836 10%: -2.5685626352082207 In general, we are more likely to reject the null hypothesis, according to which the series is non-stationary (it has a unit root ), the “more negative” the ADF test statistic is. The above test corroborates the hypothesis that the log return series is indeed stationary. The result shows that the statistic value of around -28.65 is less than -3.438 at 1%, the significance level with which we can reject the null hypothesis (see this link for more details). The Hurst Exponent There is an alternative way to investigate the presence of mean reversion or trending behavior in a process. As will be explained in detail shortly, this can be done by analyzing the diffusion speed of the series and comparing...

Application access policies in Exchange Online

Application Access Policies in Exchange Online  The Microsoft Graph has been around for a while now and is slowly turning into the de-facto standard API for any Office 365 developer, including those focused on Exchange Online. Microsoft has already announced plans to stop any feature development for the EWS API and focus on the Graph instead. While EWS will continue working for the foreseeable future, going forward you will have to switch to the Graph, so understanding how to control it is vital.  A not so short introduction to the Graph API  Switching to the Graph comes with somewhat of a learning curve. It’s beyond the scope of the article to give you a complete introduction, but in order to better understand the examples shown here, you will be required to have at least a basic understanding of the concepts behind OAuth, OIDC, application registration, permission roles and scopes, consent, access tokens and so...

Excel Data to Internal table using ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE without additional code.

This blog post will help you avoid extraneous code every time you create Excel upload program by creating a simple Interface and a structure. Before I came across FMs like TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP and SAP_CONVERT_TO_XLS_FORMAT, I used  ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE widely. For ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE, explicitly we need to write code to transfer output of this FM into internal table of desired format. For this we have to map column number of FM output with columns of required internal table using Refer below example. CALL FUNCTION ‘ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE’ EXPORTING filename            = p_file i_begin_col        = 1 i_begin_row      = 1 i_end_col          = 9 i_end_row        = 65536 TABLES intern                  = t_file EXCEPTIONS inconsistent_parameters = 1 upload_ole                      = 2 OTHERS                        = 3. Output is in below format. Further based on column number, work area is filled using...

Index table replication using SLT for custom scenario

Unlike standard replications, table to table or postings through AUFK,CFIN objects etc, via SLT, Index tables follow a different approach as the data is stored in clustered format(field ‘CLUSTD’) and they cannot be mapped directly to target HANA which doesn’t support cluster replication. The standard approach for ‘STXL’ replication is given in Note: 2430480 The focus here is the replication of another table ‘SOC3’ which is not available in standard knowledge base and we had to replicate specific SOC3 content for our requirement Here, though the approach remains similar to what we do for STXL i.e., Create a replication mass transfer id in LTRCAdd INDX – like table in LTRSGenerate templateMap key fieldsActivate and saveTrigger the Initial load/replication ( Full details about above given steps aree mentioned in Note: 2430480) Challenge is, we will not be able to get the standard template for replication since there is no standard knowledge base...

SAP C/4HANA Mock Event Testing with Varkes

Hi, Firstly, these two blogs are worth a read on the subject: https://blogs.sap.com/2019/06/19/sap-c4hana-extensibility-commerce-mock-setup/ https://blogs.sap.com/2019/06/19/sap-c4hana-extensibility-triggering-lambdas-with-events/ However, for those who don’t have access to the C/4HANA cockpit you may want to be able to test this out for yourself.  It is possible to run a Varkes instance locally, as well as Kyma and connect the two together.  In this post we will learn one way to do this as well as implement a simple Lambda function to post a message to a Slack channel on one of the event triggers. Prerequisites: I am using Rancher to deploy the xf-application-mocks/commerce-mock image, you should be able to use anything that can manage or run a docker imageI am spinning up a VM on my server but you will need a Linux box of some description (e.g. Ubuntu) to run Kyma So first lets get the Mock Server up and running.  This is the easy part. ...

Integrate SAP Subscription Billing with a non S4 SAP Backend

Hello Integrators! Today´s blog post is a about the SAP Subscription Billing Cloud. Once you know what your customers want and need such as  running campaigns on Marketing Cloud and leveraging multiple inbound channels such as Facebook etc. the next step is to persuade customers to buy the services and products, that you are offering. That´s what you want, right? The Revenue Cloud an integrated way of doing just this. This is a tool designed for modeling your products, including pricing. The cloud receives the consumption data and collects the payment information in billing objects. One off and recurring fees are added to the billing objects. After the billing cycle is closed, the billing objects are replicated to the backend. Normally, the replication is designed to exchange data with a S4 System. Over the last few days, we spent some time connecting it to our ECC on premise system. If you...

cf for your pocket

or more precisely: running your UI locally Cloud Foundry-style, connected to a “real” Backend. During my talk about the concept of a digital marketplace for the dive industry on this year’s UI5con , I showed a setup that mimics the SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry (SAP CP cf) for local development. Context When developing an application following the guidelines of the Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) , a so-called mta file needs to be generated for deployment – either within the WebIDE or with the help of the CLI tool . The mta file can then be deployed to SAP CP cf. The engine behind running the application on Cloud Foundry is the @sap/approuter. It’s an npm module that delivers the UI as a webserver (“static resources” in the above diagram) and proxies service-requests to either local or remote URLs via the Cloud Platform’s “destination” concept . And it’s possible to...

Are IT Buyers Receiving Special Bid Discounts from VARs?

Recently, IT products, services and solutions marketplace provider, Probrand , conducted a survey of 61 IT vendors in the UK to find out whether the discounts they offer are being passed on to the end-user IT buyers. Ian Nethercot, Supply Chain Director at Probrand, thinks ‘special bid’ discounts is a very interesting area which doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves. Vendors don’t know whether IT buyers receive their discounts, or whether resellers are ‘pocketing the difference.’ Special bid discounts are offered by vendors for various reasons; it might be to generate interest at key times of year, target a specific market segment, speed up sales of slow-moving products or encourage bulk purchases. But lack of vendor visibility into whether these discounts are passed on to buyers raises significant questions about whether resellers are respecting the system or using it to inflate their margins when selling those products. Is...

Afternoon Coffee: Walmart e-commerce losing $1 billion; Huawei still blacklisted?

karandaev/ Adobe Stock Walmart’s acquisition of the e-commerce website jet.com is doing a lot of business in the store’s bid to take on Amazon, but it is projecting a loss of about $1 billion , the media site Vox reports in a lengthy look at Walmart’s e-commerce play. “Walmart is, by most measures, in a more competitive position than it was before it acquired Jet,” Vox reports. “But it’s still far behind Amazon, and inside Walmart, tensions are rising. Multiple sources tell Recode that the company is projecting losses of more than $1 billion for its U.S. e-commerce division this year, on revenue of between $21 billion and $22 billion. Walmart does not disclose these figures publicly and declined to comment.” Huawei Still Blacklisted? A senior U.S. official told the Commerce Department enforcement staff this week that the Chinese tech company Huawei should still be considered blacklisted after U.S. President...

When Your Boss Is an Algorithm

This article was written by Alex Rosenblat in the New York Times Opinion .  There are nearly a million active Uber drivers in the United States and Canada, and none of them have human supervisors. It’s better than having a real boss, one driver in the Boston area told me.,”except when something goes wrong.” When something does go wrong, Uber drivers can’t tell the boss or a co-worker. They can call or write to “community support,” but the results can be enraging. Cecily McCall, an African-American driver from Pompano Beach, Fla., told me that a passenger once called her “dumb” and “stupid,” using a racial epithet, so she ended the trip early. She wrote to a support rep to explain why and got what seemed like a robotic response: “We’re sorry to hear about this. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and share details.” The rep offered not...

Open-source Logistic Regression FPGA core for accelerated Machine Learning

Machine learning algorithms are extremely computationally intensive and time consuming when they must be trained on large amounts of data. Typical processors are not optimized for machine learning applications and therefore offer limited performance. Therefore, both academia an industry is focused on the development of specialized architectures for the efficient acceleration of machine learning applications. FPGAs are programmable chips that can be configured with tailored-made architectures optimized for specific applications. As FPGAs are optimized for specific tasks, they offer higher performance and lower energy consumption compared with general purpose CPUs or GPUs. FPGAs are widely used in applications like image processing, telecommunications, networking, automotive and machine learning applications. Recently major cloud and HPC providers like Amazon, Alibaba, Huawei and Nimbix have started deploying FPGAs in their data centers. However, currently there are limited cases of wide utilization of FPGAs in the domain of machine learning. Towards this end, InAccel has released...

Workload Optimized Compute Servers Are Creating the Need for Converged Clusters

Pooled, also referred to as “converged”, clusters in a unified data environment support disparate workload better than separate, siloed clusters. Vendors now provide direct support for converged clusters to run key HPC-AI-HPDA (AI, HPC, and High Performance Data Analytic) workloads. The success of workload optimized compute servers has created the need for converged clusters as organizations have generally added workload optimized clusters piecemeal to support their disparate AI, HPC, and HPDA needs. Unfortunately, many disparate clusters operate in isolation, dedicating their resources for specific workloads and managed by humans, essentially placing them in a silo that prevents their benefitting the entire organization. This makes little sense from an operating efficiency perspective as it wastes both operation time plus OpEx (operating expense) and CapEx (capital expense) monies. [i] Most organizations, for example, don’t run their infrastructure for deep learning networks on a 24x7 basis. The part-time nature of these workloads means that...
