Retail EDI Buyer + Provider’s FAQ

Welcome to the Retail EDI FAQ page! Below, you’ll find answers to common questions for both Buyers and Providers. Whether you’re new to our platform or need help with specific features, we’re here to help!

Retail EDI is a dual-use platform. Users select a role when they register, but they can pivot from Buyer to Provider and vice versa. Providers—especially larger tech and service providers—are often also Buyers. Even small consulting businesses can engage with VANs and other service providers. We’re building onto this flexibility!

For Buyers

1. What is Retail EDI?

  • Retail EDI is a marketplace platform where Buyers (Employers, procurement managers, businesses, etc.) connect with Providers (freelancers, consultants, software developers, and service providers) offering EDI-related services.
  • Our goal is to make it easy for Buyers to find expertise, network, and post job opportunities in the EDI space.

2. How do I sign up as a Buyer?

  1. Click on the “Register” button at the top of the homepage.
  2. Fill in your details, select Buyer, and complete your profile.
  3. Once registered, users can fill out profile info, post job requirements and browse available services immediately.

3. What types of services can I find on Retail EDI?

  • EDI Consulting and strategy development
  • Software integration and development
  • EDI mapping, testing, and support
  • VAN + other network partners
  • Freelancers for short-term or long-term projects
  • Project management for large-scale EDI implementations
  • Supply Chain Management roles
  • Procurement jobs

4. How do I post job requirements?

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Navigate to the Post Job section (Lefthand side of your dashboard).
  3. Provide a detailed description, including:
    • Your specific EDI requirements
    • Industry focus (e.g., healthcare, logistics, retail)
    • Timeline & budget
  4. Submit your post, and Providers will send proposals tailored to your needs.

5. How do I communicate with Providers?

  • Use our built-in chat feature (Lower righthand corner) to discuss details, ask questions, and negotiate terms. You can also use your own email – we are not trying to dictate the technology you use, we are offering options to help.
  • Coming soon: Lightweight integration via REST API & Webhooks for seamless Buyer-Provider interactions.

6. Can I see reviews or ratings for Providers?

  • Yes! Providers can request reviews after completing projects.
  • Check ratings, read reviews, and assess previous work before hiring. This will accumulate as more Providers do projects and vice-versa.
  • We encourage Buyers to research Providers outside of Retail EDI, to the best of their ability. Feel free to reach out to us as well. 

7. What industries does Retail EDI support?

  • We support any industry that supports B2B integration

8. Can I post multiple job requirements?

  • Yes! There’s no limit to the number of job postings.
  • Each post can specify different EDI service, FTE or technology needed.

9. How do I manage my job posts and responses?

  • Use your dashboard to track all job posts and responses.
  • Enable notifications to stay updated when Providers respond.

For Providers

1. What is Retail EDI for Providers?

  • A platform for employees, consultants, software developers, and service providers to showcase EDI and supply chain related expertise.
  • Connect with Buyers across multiple industries and grow your business.

2. How do I sign up as a Provider?

  1. Click Register and select Provider (Or Freelancer temporarily).
  2. Fill in your business details and create your profile.
  3. Showcase your skills, services, and portfolio.

3. What services can I post?

  • Technology solutions can be a service as can consulting. We’ve bucketed tech, employment and services, etc. to help Buyers and Providers better filter and classify. With that said, you have huge latitude.
  • Post and service on Retail EDI that touches B2B integration. It could be a marketing service for B2B companies, or copy writing, all the way to PHP, Python, or SAP integration development.   

4. How do I respond to job posts?

  1. Browse Buyer job posts in the Marketplace.
  2. Find a project that matches your expertise.
  3. Submit a tailored proposal including:
    • Your approach
    • Pricing & timeline
    • Relevant case studies

5. Can I create multiple profiles for different services?

  • Users should not need to. Any user can create listings that cover any combination of expertise, services or technology. 
  • If you need to represent yourself in one account and the company you work for in another – use your company email addy for one and a personal one for the other.

6. Can I showcase my work or portfolio?

  • Absolutely! We highly recommend adding:
    • Case studies
    • Client testimonials
    • Samples of past projects
    • Blog posts and News Releases

7. How do I get paid for my services?

  • Retail EDI connects Buyers and Providers but does not handle payments at this time. Here is a blog addressing a few of the reasons why.
  • Set up a payment method directly with your Buyer.

8. How can I promote my services?

  • Create detailed service listings. We do not charge for them, so use them to attract the use cases they were designed to support! Please do not create one service listing for each retailer, hub or trading partner you support.
  • Post news or press releases about your latest projects. We are optimized for Google Search/News and will be posting to LinkedIn continually.
  • Engage with the community by sharing EDI industry insights.
  • Talk to us about a marketing campaign. 

9. What if I receive positive feedback from Buyers?

  • More credibility = More opportunities!
  • Retail EDI will be introducing Buyers we meet in our conversation to Providers. Gotta have a legitimate profile and be responsive to get them.

10. Can I interact with other Providers or Buyers?

  • Yes! Use the chat feature to connect, collaborate, and discuss partnerships.

General Questions

1. Is Retail EDI free to join?

  • Yes! You can create an account and start browsing or posting jobs at no cost. Retail EDI is not taking commission or charging fees on transactions or activity.
  • Future premium features may include:
    • Data integration (Lite) will be rolling out before summer.
    • Campaign management support for Providers

2. How do I manage my account?

  • Use your dashboard to:
    • Update profile information
    • Manage job posts
    • Track proposals & communications
    • Upload case studies, PDFs, or brochures (Add to your Portfolio)
    • Send the Retail EDI team NEWS and Blogs to publish!
    • Manage milestones
    • Can I ‘hide’ my profile if I’m not ready to use it? YES! Click the “Account Settings” button and scroll down to privacy. Click the tab labeled, ‘Make my profile photo visible to friends and everyone’. If it is green, then your profile will cease to be visible.

3. What if I need support?

  • Visit our Contact Us page or use the chat feature for quick help. We will get emails quickly, and we’re happy to jump on a call as well. 

4. Is my personal information secure?

  • Yes! We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data.
  • See our Privacy Policy for more details.
  • We also DO NOT collect personal info, like credit card, or other PII.

5. Can I post job requirements for any industry?

  • Retail EDI is EDI-focused, but we support various industries, including:
    • Healthcare
    • Logistics
    • Retail 
    • Manufacturing
    • Construction
